Archaeo Cultural Heritage Services (Archaeo) was established in 1996 as one of Queensland’s first privately owned cultural heritage consultancies. While providing consultancy services across the full range of Indigenous (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander), historic and built cultural heritage, Archaeo soon found itself fulfilling an additional role in the provision of employment, engagement and cultural heritage agreement implementation services for both Traditional Owner Groups and proponents across Queensland.
The company expanded substantially in the mid-2000s, including opening its Cairns and Fraser Coast offices and the incorporation of the respected north Queensland firm Gordon Grimwade and Associates. Converge Heritage + Community was created in 2007 to provide clearer separation between the company’s Traditional Owner engagement and employment services (Archaeo) and the cultural heritage consultancy wing of the company (Converge). In recent years, further developments and diversification of services has seen the formation of a more formalised separation of the services provided by both Archaeo and Converge, with Archaeo focusing on traditional owner engagement, capacity building, and employment services and Converge providing a full suite of cultural heritage technical services.
